Refactoring

posted by Thomas Bell in Development | April 12th, 2007 |

As Martin noted in the forums they have currently frozen the 0.2.1 branch. Juraj and Martin have moved into their planned refactoring phase of development. This refactoring phase is necessary and enables reaching milestones faster. The current refactoring task at hand is revitalizing the editing component from top to bottom. This will make in easier to build in all the great features everyone has suggested.

After the editing component is updated and fully refactored they will release unstable.0.3.0 which will include some awesome features:

  • Free caret mode (this is already done)
  • Word-Wrapping (Martin’s currently working on this)
  • Multi and Rectangular selections
  • Performance Upgrade

Along with features planned for 0.2.3 multi-docs and 0.2.4 search capabilities.

Also, because of the refactoring the editing component will be ready to be ported to other platforms.

The development of Intype will move much quicker after the refactoring phase. This is why they have taken this time and planned it into Intype’s development life cycle.

    when will be 0.3 released?

we really dont need “awesome features” right now… we need multi docs support and search suppor as soon as possible - till then is Intype using so limited

It says Multi-docs(tabs) and search support will be in 0.3.0.
I use Intype everyday and find it extremely useful already.

Keep up the great work, guys. Intype is already my editor of choice.

i’ve been using intype as my primary editor (well almost as my primary editor) for the past month now too. unfortunately the absense of find/replace is what is keeping me from having it as my permanent editor. with all that said, you guys rock, keep up the good work. this is the best textmate-esque editor for me to use when i’m not on my macbook pro at home. (my employer unfortunately is a microsoft gold partner and we have to use windows).

    can’t wait for 0.3.0!

It would be nice to have an auto updater built in to the editor, just saying :)

What is Intype?

Intype is a powerful and intuitive code editor for Windows with lightning fast response.

It is easily extensible and customizable, thanks in part to its support for scripting and native plug-ins. It makes development in any programming or scripting language quick and easy.

Where can I get it?

Intype is still in development, but the current alpha release is available for download here.
