Hello,

I've just tried Intype for the first time. It is a nice editor that I could easily see myself using. I am writing some ruby code and there is a feature of the indentation that I am missing. The editor would do me a favor to "back-indent" when I type end, closing a block. I hope this makes sense, it would be a great feature, one that I have come to expect in modern editors.
Thanks!

Just installed E and Intype. Had been using Notepad++ before. I really like both editors, but Intype is a bit more appealing because of its smaller footprint and it's just a bit more responsive. Also, the UI is a lot nicer, too. While there are a few things I would really like to see (projects list, integration with Toirtoise SVN), the main reason I'm not using Intype right now is that it doesn't have syntax highlighting for ERB files -- and I couldn't find an extension for this (or even know if intype has syntax highlighting extensions).

Other than that, it's a great editor, guys, and am looking forward to seeing how it evolves. If I'm overlooking something with the ERB syntax highlighting, let me know as I'd like to use Intype. Thanks!

First of all, is this already possible by messing up with current bundles? If it is, how can I do this?
If not, this is a must have feature since many programmers take part of it and it makes things a lot easier.

Auto-Indentation is: when you press ENTER right after typing a {, it goes to the next nine and indents a tab. Like this:

if(something == something_else) {
    blabla...
}

And not:

if(something == something_else) {
blabla...
}

There are already two posts regarding this but I didn’t really understand what they meant in the second one.

http://intype.info/forums/discussion/357/automatic-indentation/#Item_7
http://intype.info/forums/discussion/44/indentsettings/#Item_7

So it is possible or not?

Thanks.

There are a few things that could make Intype exactly what Dreamweaver should be:
+ The autocomplete feature which is expected since 2007.
+ The Bundle Editor should be much more flexible.
+ Intype should be much more customizable, and maybe Portable.
+ Add a "Browse" button to the Projects bar.
+ A built-in, alternative CSS Editor (like this: http://www.panic.com/coda/img/screenshots/css-screenshot_01.jpg).
+ A SDK for the sake of expandability.
+ Mac OS X and Linux compatibility.
+ I know it is lightweight. Let's make it... umm... almost nothingweight.

I think all of Intype's users would be happy to help. At least I am.

So let's revive the Intype project and make it at least as powerful as Panic Coda! Then we can switch to paid.

If you need my help with really anything, let me know. Post here or add me on Yahoo: srn94.

P.S. Yes, I'm expecting some answers from you. Hi everybody,

Between when I first stumbled upon intype 3 yeasr ago and today I have used intype for some months. Mainly out of envy for Textmate snippets and the clean interface. But since intype wasn't going to get out of alpha stage any time soon I also dabbled with vim. Today vim is my default editor for anything (it still can't read psd files and the scene flash editor isn't really up-to-date but it's doing the job for everything else) and I literally can't use any other editor that hasn't all the wonderful vim modes, regex search&replace, scripts and so on.. but most of all: key bindings of normal mode for file navigation.

So here's the $1,000,000 request to me: can vim modes be implemented into intype ? Whether via user plug-ins (the javascript thingy) or on lower-level ?

My Dream Editor.

I saw this editor yesterday and found it to be almost my dream editor, it’s extremely fast, it’s easy to use and it’s simple and clean with a large writing area. The project feature is also a great addition.

If you could implement the following features, then it will be my dream editor. :-)

» Option to enable or disable Cursor beyond EOL and/or EOF and selection beyond EOL.
» Quick access to Bundles, like shortcuts? Or maybe the most used stuff like Bold, Italic, Underline, BR, make it buttons in the file bar, to save space. It depends on the language of course.
» A color picker (export to editor as hex or rgb…)
» Close tabs on double click
» Find in files and folders
» Drag and Drop support
» Option to allow reopening last opened files on program startup
» Automatic Ident
» Option to shot/hide spaces or tabs (gray dots and lines)
» Save editor configuration (when I configure intype, the next time I open it, it has the default configuration)
» Better double click code selection, like selecting the whole string “$string” instead of “string” text only and so on…

Intype looks very simple and clean, please keep it that way, it makes a great ambient for programming.

When I toggle off the Project Sidebar, it leaves a small bar in the left which can pull the project sidebar again. Can’t this be completely hidden?

I am not using Intype right now only because of the lack of autoident, closing tabs require right click->close instead of double clicking tab to close and quick access to Bold, Italic, Underline, HTML Space and Color Picker. These are the most important features for me, please implement them in Intype. :D

Right now I am using PHP Expert Editor but it takes a bit longer to load and doesn’t look as clean as Intype. Too much buttons which require too much toolbars space.

Thanks for reading.

I've never seen Ctrl+F4 before, and while it could certainly be left in, most windows programs with tabs (such as all the major tabbed browsers, as well as others) Ctrl+W closes a tab, Ctrl+T opens a new tab (could open a new doc in InType), Ctrl+Shift+T reopens the previously closed tab (could be used as a sort of quick-access to the top item in the MRU). Also, middle-clicking a tab in many programs closes it - this would be extremely convenient.

So, I was thinking today (while rekindling my love for inType), that it would be cool if inType could wrap text, when a snippet is used.

Here’s my logic:

1. Copy any highlighted text on the editor to the memory of inType (this must be constantly updating – maybe with an onSelect event occurring?).
2. If snippet is then inserted (overwriting the highlighted text), you see if there is any highlighted text saved to your memory variable.
2.a If we do have text saved, insert it at a marker in the snippet (how you do the marker is up to you; I’m not an expert on your syntax).
2.b There is no text: insert the snipper as usual.
3. Another happy inType user.

I think I explained that well enough, but if not, I can clarify.

Don’t know if it is possible, but I think using regular expressions in tab triggers can be very effective.
If it is possible to use javascript in snippets, something like that would be a great feature:
table:5×7→[TAB] expands to HTML table with 5 columns and 7 rows.

I’m a full time Linux user – and have been for about 6 months now – and looking at the new Intype Projects Pane I would miss the little toolbar that gEdit has, with a button to how/hide hidden files and folders (.dot file/folders). There’s a screenshot of the gEdit FileBrowser Pane & Toolbar here.
The buttons are: Back, Forward, Up a Level, Refresh and Show/Hide Hidden files and folders. Even if Intype only had that one Show/Hide button on the little ‘Projects’ header strip, that would be very handy, I think.

What do you think?

			- I would like to see an option pane open on the left had side containing a designated project directory
- Need to be able to left click on tabs to close them individually or together
- Would like to see this program show closing tags if you put the cursor on the opening tag...even if it is a php echo or similar output
- Would like to see some auto-complete features for CSS especially, but other languages as well
- More themes, bundles, and ability to create macros

If all these changes were added...intype would be on a totally new level.

In fact if they can do all that e-text editor does while fixing some of their bugs, like permissions across networks on files....this could be amazing. Unfortunately right now it falls short for everything good that I have heard about it. I fail to see the advantages it has over e-text editor or text-mate.

For viewing log files, it is useful to be able to remove all lines that don't match a given regex (e.g. grep output). However, being able to just collapse the non-matching sections rather than remove is insanely useful.

Built in support would be nice, but being able to add arbitrary code folding points via the API would be great.

I’m sure this request is a minority, but I’d like to set my tab widths (incl. the soft spaces option) per document type. For HTML I tend to stick to two space tabs, whereas all other code is four spaces.

Edit: I just reread my post. What I mean is per document type. Not necessarily per document file.

I thought about where to place this functionality in the UI, but I don’t think the bundle editor nor appearance preferences is the right place. The former is related to actual snippets. The latter should only affect appearance and not the content (whereas tab width does affect the actual content of a file).

Perhaps the most logical (given the restraints) and low impact choice would be putting it in the appearance preferences UI with the default tab width being four spaces. It would then allow anyone who wants to to define exceptions by adding a new appearance.

I’m sure there is more to include in a “per document type settings” UI, but this one in particular is relevant to my interests ;-)

Thank you for your time and keep up the great work.

one nice thing, which could be very handy – cursor highlight. like it is in windows optional for mouse cursor – but for text cursor. I just realized as many times i seach for it in character soup. It could be simple, like twice press CTRL and big circle will surround cursor, also it can be scrolled to current position. :)
