Just to keep things tidy and easy for everyone to refer to, I’ve compiled a list of requested features. Features with attached version numbers denote that the feature will likely be released at that version. This information has been provided by martincohen and comes from their Intype development roadmap. Features in italics have been acknowledged and appears in the current Features list or in the linked page. Some upcoming planned features are mentioned there as well, so please take a look before requesting. ;)

In addition, if a requested feature that was previously listed here is gone from the list, it means that it will be coming out in an upcoming release. So please check the posts linked to under “Removal History“.

Download

Download Intype 0.3.1.547

Warnings & Announces

WARNING! Backup your changed files in bundles and themes folders and Uninstall previous release

Features

Multi-Document Interface (tabs)

All necessary commands to navigate between tabs you’ll find in the menus (and much more is underway).

Instance control has been also implemented. So from now on, Intype is forced to be single-instance, all files opened with other instance of Intype are redirected to the first one. So no more multiple Intype applications wasting your space on the task bar.

Open Dialog supports opening multiple files at once

Undo supports automation and will keep the multi-insert behavior until you leave it either by pressing ESC, by typing after the active region.

Multi-Selections and Rectangular Selections

You can create multiple selection ranges with Ctrl+Click’n‘Drag. Overlapping regions will merge after you release the mouse button.

You can create rectangular selections with Alt+Click’n‘Drag, or by keyboard using Alt+Arrows.

When in multi-selection or rectangular-selection mode, multi-insert feature is activated. So all you type is copied to all selected regions.

Snippets & Multi-Snippets

When in multi or rectangular selection, you can launch any snippet by keyboard shortcut or by selecting from menu. Snippets supporting wrapping selection will be launched for every range.

Undo will keep behavior of currently active snippet until you leave the snippet mode (ESC, typing after active region, or by using multiple Undo commands)

Find & Replace

Regular Expressions supporting all strenght of Oniguruma Regular Expression library.

Current selection ranges (also with multi selections) are used to prefill find and replace fields. First select range for find string, then for replace string.

You can also use clipboard history to fill the search field. First copy text to be found, then copy text for replace.

“Replace In Selection” button in the Find dialog will naturaly work with multi-selection.

Clipboard History

Intype now keeps history of your clipboard.

You can use Ctrl+Shift+V to show popup menu with the history registers and pick one to insert.

The most recent register is at the end of the menu — and is naturaly available by Ctrl+V

Word Wrap

Word-Wrap supports aligning wrapped lines with the physical line’s indentation.

Bug Fixes

Those are some of the bug fixes reported for 0.2.x versions:

Tab key now inserts appropriate amount of spaces relative to current column.

Bundles

Bundle Menu (info.itInfo in bundle’s folder) has been changed. Currently we are using fully-specified command name identifier in format

bundle.<Bundle_Folder_Name>.<snippet|language>.<Snippet_File_Name_Without_Extension>

Please update your menu definitions in your own bundles (perhaps using new Find & Replace functionality). Built-in bundles were updated. Extended bundles are already available thanx to Thomas Bell.

All languages are switched to Ctrl+Shift+Alt modified shortcuts.

News

There’s also available our current short-term ToDo list.

Documentation underway.

Wrapping selection in snippets now works as expected.

ESC key to clear the selection, reset mode and to hide floating dialogs.

Ctrl+Enter mapped to command “New Line Below”

I’d like to thank to people around Intype Team, especially (listed alphabetically) Benjamin Beirnaert, Thomas Bell, Andre Medeiros and Christopher Speer.

So I believe you will like this one, because much more is on the way (many other features are ready, but need to be tested and tuned). I hope we will deliver it sooner than this one. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Hey Guys,

I’ve been a hardcore user of Intype for quite some time, and use on a daily basis.

Even more, as maintainer of the Ruby Installer for Windows, I’m proud to say that all the development done on it and the related projects has been done using Intype.

Just in case, the link to the new website:

http://rubyinstaller.org/

And the link to my blog:

http://blog.mmediasys.com/

Also, a nifty script to make intype open files or projects in a text-mate way:

http://github.com/luislavena/binfiles/blob/master/it.bat

I’ve been working on a series of small tutorials and creating a series of screencast. While 1.5 years old Intype has proven to be enough for that, been wondering, moving forward, if I should hold until next release to continue my work, or perhaps I can evangelize and tease others about the new release?

This question is more for Intype team than users, tried reach them several times so I hope this time brings their attention.

Regards.

Hello guys,

as usually, we’ve had an Intype synchronization session yesterday (happens each week on Wednesday) and we’ve finalized the requirements and API sets for the JavaScript up to version 1.0. So to give you an idea on what’s going to be possible with JS, and to gain some feedback, here’s the list of the sets.

Support APIs

These APIs will extend standard JavaScript library with usable stuff you might need for extending the Intype functionality.

			Hello,

I've just tried Intype for the first time. It is a nice editor that I could easily see myself using. I am writing some ruby code and there is a feature of the indentation that I am missing. The editor would do me a favor to "back-indent" when I type end, closing a block. I hope this makes sense, it would be a great feature, one that I have come to expect in modern editors.
Thanks!

I think we all share the terrific annoyance created by Intype’s developers’ complete-lack-of interest or respect for Intype’s user-community. The developers do not provide updates to the application or to the website, informing us of progress being made. This leads me to believe there is no progress being made; the developers have either forgotten about the project or they have hit some problem that is preventing them from working on Intype. Whatever the case, it is royally PISSING ME OFF.

Now, I am, and I assume a few others here are, versed in C (the programming language), and would be inspired to continue developing Intype (with the help of others, of course) because it has such great potential. For this to happen, we need to get a message through to the developers: either start listening to the community, or open-source the application. It’s not fair that this application should be cock-blocked by some lazy developers.

I hope this topic will kick-up some discussion and then we can talk about a plan-of-attack.

Just installed E and Intype. Had been using Notepad++ before. I really like both editors, but Intype is a bit more appealing because of its smaller footprint and it's just a bit more responsive. Also, the UI is a lot nicer, too. While there are a few things I would really like to see (projects list, integration with Toirtoise SVN), the main reason I'm not using Intype right now is that it doesn't have syntax highlighting for ERB files -- and I couldn't find an extension for this (or even know if intype has syntax highlighting extensions).

Other than that, it's a great editor, guys, and am looking forward to seeing how it evolves. If I'm overlooking something with the ERB syntax highlighting, let me know as I'd like to use Intype. Thanks!

Many features are already implemented, just like the way they are done in TextMate:
- commands
- snippets
- project mode
- web preview
Unlike e text editor, the commands don't require messy Cygwin to be installed. So come and give TextShell a try! With a 120 hour trial period there should be plenty of time to evaluate whether it is for you. So if you have given up about intype and want a different editor, find something else - other than textshell unless, of course, you are ok with your system being rendered completely unbootable and having to reinstall your OS for just having installed a measly text editor with a couple of cool features.

Here's my post at the textshell forum: http://textshell.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12&start=10 (you can also see there - by admittance of the author himself) that textshell as just as dead as intype - if not more.

We are currently finishing the Bundle management features and we came with some controversial idea on how to solve the last problem. To the point: As some of you already know, we have two bundle folders, one in the root of the installation, and the second one in the user folder. Bundles in root folder are those which should not be changed directly by you, as a user. You are however encouraged to create the folder and the overriding item file in the user folder. When Intype is loading, it’s merging the two folders together, giving the user folder has higher priority. So in the end, you can change any bundle item (snippet, grammar, bundle menu) without touching the bundles that were installed with Intype. Also you won’t lost your changes when you install a new version of Intype, and also, you can simply backup all your changes.

However the mechanism we’re using for merging those two folders is using file name (and partial path) comparision so everything depends on a file name. Now the file names are made easily readable (like wrap_in_tags.itSnippet), because of lacking Bundle Editor functionality. With new Intype, we will deliver full bundle editor so you don’t have to mess with your files on the drive. However, for making things much safer for the merging mechanism, we would like to change the file names to universally unique identifiers. This will change all the names to something like this:

{3F2504E0-4F89-11D3-9A0C-0305E82C3301}.itSnippet
{88B0AFC5-9BA4-40C2-973B-389D23CA1729}.itSnippet
{E252374E-EBDA-45FD-8E0A-2AAC590D73B1}.itSnippet

Messy, isn’t it? So before you ask:

Am I going to see these numbers in the bundle editor? —In the bundle editor, you will see all the beautiful titles (as it is in our 0.3.1.734).

So why the heck you haven’t done this from the very first version? —We decided to go with the readable scheme until we finish the bundle editor.

What those numbers actually mean? Those numbers are hexadecimal representations of 128-bit numbers called UUID each item will have it’s own. The number will be used to identify the item, and tells us whether this is completely new item, or it’s overriding any other item from the root bundles folder.

Now for what you get as a compensation:

Startup performance will stay as fast as it is now.

Safety in playing around with the bundles and sharing with your friends.

A fully functional Bundle Editor allowing you to edit snippets, grammars, themes, bundle menus, templates, JavaScript command and other stuff to come.

If you had any of your bundles created, we will help you converting them using the conversion tools, scripts or tutorials.

Let us know your opinion about this, and if, let us know:

whether you are creating your own bundle items (snippets, grammars, themes)

whether you are editing existing bundle items

how many of those edited bundle items you have

We’re looking forward for all your helpful replies and opinions.

Take care,

Is there a command line option list somewhere?
I found -p only. What I need is an option for change syntax highlighting…so I can call Intype from a browser (Opera) with e.g. -c “html”...

For example:
When I open source from older Opera, Intype opens file opr0ZR8A and i have to manually switch to the HTML syntax.
Opera 10.50 opens file opr0ZR8A.tmp

Solution:
Go to “\bundles\HTML.itBundle\syntaxes\html.itGrammar” and add “tmp” file type. But i’d like to see -c option and all command line options of course:)

First of all, is this already possible by messing up with current bundles? If it is, how can I do this?
If not, this is a must have feature since many programmers take part of it and it makes things a lot easier.

Auto-Indentation is: when you press ENTER right after typing a {, it goes to the next nine and indents a tab. Like this:

if(something == something_else) {
    blabla...
}

And not:

if(something == something_else) {
blabla...
}

There are already two posts regarding this but I didn’t really understand what they meant in the second one.

http://intype.info/forums/discussion/357/automatic-indentation/#Item_7
http://intype.info/forums/discussion/44/indentsettings/#Item_7
