Intype's simplicity is wonderful design. May I recommend that when you when you get to search and replace in the road map, you take a look at the simple approach of Dreamweaver's search and replace dialog? A screen shot can be found here: http://www.uwec.edu/help/Dreamweaver04/fndreplac-ovr.htm. Too many editors develop different dialogs for Search,Replace, and even Find in files, adding unnecessary complexity.

Not a really good example of modern ui design. Firefox’s style is the way go these days.

I agree with nolan. I love it when a dialog isn’t actually a dialog it is part of the interface itself. (And that you can easily hide it.) I hate fighting with big clumsy dialogs. Firefox style find is the way to go.

To Bill M.‘s credit I believe is main concern is more about intype using many different dialog for search purposes than getting an independent window dialog.
If intype goes the ff way this won’t be a problem since intype’s main window will hold the s&r buttons.

Intype’s Fx-style searchbar at the bottom of the window will be separate from the Search/Replace-dialog; they will co-exist peacefully, if I understand things correctly… For the dialog window, I do think that something along the lines of what Bill showed us would be appropriate and I definately agree that there should only be one dialog for all variants of searching/replacing, in files, etc.

Yeah, there will be two components for searching. First implemented will be the universal dialog, which design is very close to one that Bill M. showed. The “firefox-line” will be used as a complementary “Quick Find/Replace” UI with limited functionality.
