    Download Intype 0.3.1.547

    Warnings & Announces

    • WARNING! Backup your changed files in bundles and themes folders and Uninstall previous release

    Features

    Multi-Document Interface (tabs)

    • All necessary commands to navigate between tabs you’ll find in the menus (and much more is underway).
    • Instance control has been also implemented. So from now on, Intype is forced to be single-instance, all files opened with other instance of Intype are redirected to the first one. So no more multiple Intype applications wasting your space on the task bar.
    • Open Dialog supports opening multiple files at once
    • Undo supports automation and will keep the multi-insert behavior until you leave it either by pressing ESC, by typing after the active region.

    Multi-Selections and Rectangular Selections

    • You can create multiple selection ranges with Ctrl+Click’n‘Drag. Overlapping regions will merge after you release the mouse button.
    • You can create rectangular selections with Alt+Click’n‘Drag, or by keyboard using Alt+Arrows.
    • When in multi-selection or rectangular-selection mode, multi-insert feature is activated. So all you type is copied to all selected regions.

    Snippets & Multi-Snippets

    • When in multi or rectangular selection, you can launch any snippet by keyboard shortcut or by selecting from menu. Snippets supporting wrapping selection will be launched for every range.
    • Undo will keep behavior of currently active snippet until you leave the snippet mode (ESC, typing after active region, or by using multiple Undo commands)

    Find & Replace

    • Regular Expressions supporting all strenght of Oniguruma Regular Expression library.
    • Current selection ranges (also with multi selections) are used to prefill find and replace fields. First select range for find string, then for replace string.
    • You can also use clipboard history to fill the search field. First copy text to be found, then copy text for replace.
    • “Replace In Selection” button in the Find dialog will naturaly work with multi-selection.

    Clipboard History

    • Intype now keeps history of your clipboard.
    • You can use Ctrl+Shift+V to show popup menu with the history registers and pick one to insert.
    • The most recent register is at the end of the menu — and is naturaly available by Ctrl+V

    Word Wrap

    • Word-Wrap supports aligning wrapped lines with the physical line’s indentation.

    Bug Fixes

Those are some of the bug fixes reported for 0.2.x versions:

    • Tab key now inserts appropriate amount of spaces relative to current column.

    Bundles

Bundle Menu (info.itInfo in bundle’s folder) has been changed. Currently we are using fully-specified command name identifier in format

    bundle.<Bundle_Folder_Name>.<snippet|language>.<Snippet_File_Name_Without_Extension>

Please update your menu definitions in your own bundles (perhaps using new Find & Replace functionality). Built-in bundles were updated. Extended bundles are already available thanx to Thomas Bell.

All languages are switched to Ctrl+Shift+Alt modified shortcuts.

    News

    • There’s also available our current short-term ToDo list.
    • Documentation underway.
    • Wrapping selection in snippets now works as expected.
    • ESC key to clear the selection, reset mode and to hide floating dialogs.
    • Ctrl+Enter mapped to command “New Line Below”

I’d like to thank to people around Intype Team, especially (listed alphabetically) Benjamin Beirnaert, Thomas Bell, Andre Medeiros and Christopher Speer.

So I believe you will like this one, because much more is on the way (many other features are ready, but need to be tested and tuned). I hope we will deliver it sooner than this one. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

I have a few questions, how much easier is it to develop with your new API? And in the future will you have plugins and possibly open up part of the API so that others can develops plugins & addons, etc.? And did you develop intype with intype? =P

  2.  permalink

    Respect:

    • Yep, it’s much more easier. It’s fun adding new features, one time I had been unstoppable, and had to remove some features the other day :)
    • The API will be open for everyone. We have planned releasing first public API for 0.4 along with JavaScript scripting support.
    • Nope, Intype is not the category. However, we are developing a new site and support subsites in it, and it’s just great to use it.

Finally, this wasn’t such a hard work to do, like you were simulating all the time. I expected a little more, uhm, uniqueness. Do you plan any unique features other editors don’t have?

Sweet! I’m loving this update. It seems the editor I used until now is going to start collecting dust. Intype makes me much more productive.

There is one thing though. I’m pretty used that all editors and IDEs on Windows offer both find and replace functions separately. Intype doesn’t and sums them up in the menu as simple “Find”. I think this is a bit confusing. Maybe it would be a good idea to follow the tradition here or at least rename “Find’ to “Find and Replace”?

Hannes: Well, we have. That’s why it took so long. And I definitelly won’t speak about our “uniqueness” just yet, and that should be obvious for you as a developer and project manager.

    The new release looks great, and I don't want to complain, but;

I was hoping "multi-doc" included a project manager, but I see it's not there yet. Can you give us maybe a rough idea of when it is expected? I tried que's pm, but it doesn't seem to work with the new version.

    A few things:

The close dialog should have “Save” and “Don’t save” labels for the buttons. http://www.xvsxp.com/interface/dialogs.php :)

Maybe the F3 shortcut should work even when the search dialog is focused, and not just when you’re in the editor?

I’m actually missing a project manager, now that the editor is so well built it feels unbalanced without a good PM part, somehow, but, I know that’s to come in the future…

Well, anyhow. Great work on this one, guys.

Oh, one other thing. The scrollbars redrawing is a little funky, when switching tabs and resizing the window and so on… I don’t know why this is. And one last thing too, when you activate Word Wrap and then resize the window to a width that is exactly so that the last character gets cut in half… that shouldn’t happen, it should wrap into another line of text before the window gets too narrow for the text to display fully. Right?

Cofyc: Report it to bugs section. Drag&Drop is currently working with one file, but I sure will update this. Vercal wheel-scrolling should be working. Horizontal scroll should work with Ctrl+Alt+Wheel.

jbeduya: Yeah, there will be soon a keyboard map that let’s you configure the shortcuts as you wish.

I like Intype very much. Thanks for good work.:-)

    @ martincohen,

Is this next major release 0.4 that is slated for september?
  7.  permalink

I don’t want to do any estimations now, Juraj is currently at hospital (it’s rather trivial abdominal surgery) so it would be irresposibile. However, we will try to slice the project management task to smaller parts and do rather small steps than big and juicy releases. We will do the detailed planning when he is okay, and update.

    @ martincohen,

I really don't mean to be insensitive. Its just that we all have to wait sooo long. The pace just feels very glacial. Things like auto-pairing, project management, transpose, and many more are so important as core functionality. They're things developers would rather not live without.

On the flip-side from what I've seen, things are moving forward regardless. I just wish the release schedule was faster.

imakethings: We have our preferences and planning, of course, many features are missing, and the importance is differing from developer to developer. Another thing is that we are redesigning every basic functionality present as core in other editors to make them more snappy and more powerful. This requires more time than you can imagine,...

However, there are still minor releases that are still moving things forward.

  10.  permalink
Okay... Thanks for your input martin! Gladly appreciated.

    Hello!

I like InType :) Thank you, guys!

    I've got a small-but-not-minor suggestion:
    * trace if file was changed outside of InType and offer re-open it. It's critical when you're working with versioning system like CVS or SVN. You may overwrite changes after updating from repository, so causing really undesirable aftermaths :)))

Actually, that's the only reason I'm not using InType as 'the only-and-ultimate text editor' :))))
