Hey, I just wanted to note how much I appreciate Intype...

been coding php over the years, mostly procedural code and w/ notepad. After getting so tired of how long it too to make progress I took a long break from php several months ago. In the last few weeks I decided to "re-learn" php. I wanted to use a framework and mvc style, so I downloaded the main ones to study: sympony, cakephp, codeignitor, and a few others. I also started to learn OOP in php 5. Knowing that it's best to learn by doing I started putting together a framework without too much focus on what I would build on it, and WOW, what a difference. It's so much easier and more fun. Another part of getting back into coding, I decided I wanted a nice text editor... I downloaded A LOT of them and it's amazing how complicated they were with "loads" of "features"... and to a large extent ( other than just one text editor I use for searching files and fast text replacement ) inferior still to just using standard notepad. I started using Intype and liked it a lot ( the offical download ) and I been using it regularly since, I felt happy and then... I saw a video online showing off a beta or "unstable" version and DID I like what I saw. I saw a post about forum users getting access to "unstable" versions, so I registered and downloaded .734 and I am super happy now, it's SOO slick and intuitive, I was really envying TextMate on the Mac, but not anymore! This application rocks. Thanks for developing it.

llbeaner75: Wow, that’s nice to read. Thank you very much, and we are looking forward to hear any ideas on making it even better.

first off as it stands, it doesn't just have features, it really aids in development. it doesn't matter to me how many features it has if it's built in a way that makes it easy to write applications ( and it sure does ), the way the new "Project" feature lists the folders that I can open and show the files, well, i get excited just to open Intype and see how nice the entire thing is laid out, i think it's brilliant, the way it looks, and the way it "feels". after using this app i feel "spoiled", and i mean i think i'd quit php coding if i couldn't use it.

if you want a feature request, i'd say to search all files and option to replace in all files.

then... make it v1.0 and charge for it. i saw the faq on what you plan to charge, i'd say go to the high end of your plan, or a little higher.

And once again: thank you! For the feature request, we definitely plan and still moving forward to implement searching/replacing in files. The actual plan is to have classical search scopes such as “All Opened Files”, “All Project Files”, and “Folder” which allows you to pick an arbitrary folder and search/replace within it’s files. There are also other things we’d like to update in the search. For example: finding all matches and selecting them so you can use our multi selection / snippet functionality over the search, and to do the search within the search.

I've just discovered intype today having grown tired of the general lack of flair of e-texteditor. This really is the start of a great application - no more need to be jealous every time I see textmate on a railscast! I'm very impressed. Thank you Martin and the team for all your hard work! Looking forward to find in files and find and replace that you've mentioned - they are probably the main missing features at the moment for me. Also is it possible that you will enable copy and paste of files in the project view, especially handy with CTRL+C, CTRL+V shortcuts. Quick open is also great, looking forward to it picking up .html.erb files. Having read some of the other posts in the forum, I would back you on releasing slowly in order to keep this superb application on such a good track. Looking forward to paying for your first true release version!

ben_a_morrison: Oh, thank you for your trust and understanding of our development process.

    About your feature requests:

    • Copy and Paste to/from Project is in short-term plan (it might appear in 0.3.5).
    • Quick open and opening .html.erb files: I’m not sure if I understand what you mean. But the quick open should show all known extensions, that means, all extensions that are assigned to a grammar. Each time you select a grammar for a file, there’s an internal preference association created. If it is not working, it is a bug. Can you please confirm?

Question: recently joined an ongoing project and the guy working on it uses dreamweaver, bleck! i don't care for it. I want to use Intype, but how do we deal with syncing up the files ?

wow, this will be great feature.

    +1 to ilbeaner75

checking for modifications on file is planned, but showing it on document somehow will be great.

I'll double check of the quick open bug, I think quick open may only work with files that have already been opened rather than everything within the current project.

ben_a_morrison: Well, it actually is intended to serve as a project quick open. However, we will split the functionality so you will be able to choose where to search (recent files and/or opened files and/or project).

well, the problem with how to use Intype in a project with more than a single coder is solved, subversion and tortoiseSVN. Super cool.

Hi guys. I have a very similar life history to llbeaner75. Maybe the main difference is that I come from the MS world. In the past I did some VB, Asp and then 6 years developing Asp.Net apps and believe me, I know quite a lot of Asp.Net in particular the issues regarding bad generated html code by Visual Studio and the framework as well. It´s a long hystory, they (MS) made a huge advance regarding those issues, but in the end the whole Asp.Net model IMHO is far from what I could say: I like it. What happened then? I made a very radical move starting by quiting my job and spent some time doing nothing with software business. I then decided to re-learn web development, but now by following the things I like and believe is good. One of those things is to avoid bloated sw, to keep it simple, to avoid branded sw as well and of course to choose a good and smart set of tools.

Well, I still didn´t start to develop anything and I never thought it could be quite time consuming to decide, for example, which code editor to choose from. I´ve installed and tested many editors, some good, some very clumsy and avoided the Rad IDEs like Visual Studio, Aptana, etc ... In the end I decided to choose InType because of its great potential, plus it´s lite, fast ... intelligent piece of sw. Well, I finally have my code editor :-)

Now I´m checking: javascriptMVC, RoR, databases and a few other things. It´s a long journey, but I´m happy with my move.

    i also have similar story.
like llbeaner75 i’ve started re-learning PHP, or maybe i was exhausted of it all, so i changed job, left my own business and my business partners. and .. started to work as driver in post office.. :P one year later i back to my occupation, with fresh mind.

first of all i found RoR and Ruby, then i made my own list of things i need to know like: SVN, GIT, HAML & SASS, C#, AS3 (always worked in AS2 and never have a chance to explore new version), Capistrano and many many more…. and no matter what i’m doing, which language – i always use Intype. Even my shell is connected to it.

    buck up guys !
