eehh it’s sad to wait for so many delayed projects, great projects.

    Cairo – delayed
    Konnekt – unknown
InType – coming soon (in some future)

but when it all comes, it will be great day )

My growing hatred of 'e' coupled with my longing for this intype release is killing me inside. Keep up the good work Martin and co, we're trusting in your direction and timing on this as we wait with baited breath for an awesome product! Maybe September will be the month?

Guys, the next release is not going to happen anytime soon, from what I can tell (martin recently wondered whether V8 wouldn’t be better suited for Intype than SpiderMonkey – I suppose that means they’re not quite done with plugging JavaScript engine into the core yet, which is a staple feature of upcoming beta). So, instead of deepening your already strong obsessive-compulsive disorder, just relax, subscribe to unstable releases’ feed and get yourself some life.

  3.  permalink

Ingwar and all: The possible transition to V8 will have no impact to the release of CP1. CP1, as announced, will not include direct JavaScript support at all. The work that has been done on plugging JS is mostly on updating the internal architecture to allow more advanced scripting support that was originally planned. All of this is already implemented along with many other features planned not touching the JS at all. JavaScript will just mirror (and slightly simplify) the internal API that will also be used for writing plug-ins. And thank you Ingwar, for making incompetent suggestions.

martin you should not be angry with Ingwar. he is somehow right you know. i believe the only thing keeping many of us around is the total incapacity of other developers to make a serious windows alternative for textmate. Also it is a reward, a sort of gratitude to you guys the devs for putting up a promise that would really help a lot of people.

And yes, we all know that a text editor is one of the hardest apps anyone can build.

But you see a promise is a promise. I believe broken promises will drive people away.

What i dont understand is why cant you provide not releases but some kind of status updates. I understand it is a hobby/part time project but posting a weekly stuff on the blog shouldnt be that much of a burden.

But whatever it is your project :) and you seem to ok with this situation. And I’m planning for a mac anyway :D

@martin Could you please just make some kind of mailing list so that when you actually do make the next release you can just let us know by email. That way we aren't left having to come back to this forum over and over again and get disappointed so often.

    Thanks!

I’m not sure what your problem with me or my statement above is, especially since I just said the guys who ask every day if the new release is there yet should just sit back and relax because the release will be done when it will be done. And I did so with tongue-in-cheek manner. Is it the lack of any smiley that you felt like I’m attacking Intype or you personally?

You can already do this – just go to this forum topic: http://intype.info/forums/11/ and subscribe to it’s RSS feed – it’ll tell you when a new unstable gets realsed.

Yeah, it would be nice to see some activity from the Intype people on this website. They don't do much to instill any confidence in them as a business.

uh srr, so I thought NEW alfa/pre-alfa/beta rls.

I love Intepe, but when I want to propagate it, everyone say Haha, it’s only such a beta version and there is no new build in last six months… I can only answer: “true story”...

yep. when me and my friends – mac lovers – we talk about software – i’m windows guy – they agree that Intype is only good and fast editor for M$. But laughts at me: “there is only alpha”. So developers, I bet with You, You loose more money with this release delay and Your opponents get stronger.

I can wait and the alpha is still very usefull for me.

But I agree with dotsona, back in august: Some short infos about the progress (or even no progress) would just take a few minutes…

That’s the developers decision, there are obviously not dumb and seem to know what they do. Just wait.

From a purely "product" (the editor itself) perspective, I would have to agree with 'Herr-Vorragend'...the Intype crew "seem to know what they do." But from a business perspective, I think this is a complete mess.

These three editors seem to be mentioned in the same breath quite frequently: Sublime, Intype, and E.

E: There are frequent releases and the forum is active. As a customer, I would feel comfortable purchasing a license (and in fact I did).

Intype: There hasn't been a release in ages and there is rarely activity on the blog or forum. As a customer, I wouldn't feel comfortable purchasing a license. When you have a website and a product, people have expectations.

Sublime: There has been a recent release, but the blog hasn't been updated in months and the 'owner/developer' hasn't been active on the forum for weeks. I was thinking about purchasing a license, but before I did I sent an email to the support email address on the Sublime site. I sent that email about one week ago. I've heard nothing. As a customer, I wouldn't feel comfortable purchasing a license.

Nobody wants to see a rushed product. But if you're going to create a business, do it.

I would personally be willing to pay say 20 euros in advance if that would speed up Intype's development time.

All the things that are being pointed out in this thread recently (ie. team’s inability to communicate with the userbase, lack of confidence in the product and pleas for status updates etc.) have already been brought up numerous times and to little effect. So… While all these points are valid and reasonable, I wouldn’t hold my breath hoping that something is going to change.
