I’ve been using InType for a while now – when I’m forced to work in a Windows environment and I’ve got say first off, congratulations. It’s a fantastic editor and one I wouldn’t leave home without. In previous versions of the editor I’ve been able to make the changes suggested by Martin in the Default Tabs thread however in the latest version I’m seeing some quite different effects.

Some of the files I open (having been opened and saved in previous versions of InType with soft/2 tabs) will open with my preferred settings but files only opened in the new version remain at hard/4. I’ve tried changing the preferences in app.file_defaults, app.editor.default, app.editor, app.global and even source.ruby to try and “fix” this but have had no luck yet. Any suggestions on making this work?

Lastly, keep up the great work, the editor is fantastic (not only because it integrates with TextMate so well), and this is really a minor annoyance for me :-)

TheOptimist: The default preferences (defined in the preferences.itConfig file) are only applied when:

    • You’re creating a new file (using File/New or Ctrl+N)
    • Auto-detections fails to detect the file’s indentation and line endings

If you’re opening an existing file, then in 99% of situations, the auto-detection will override the default settings. We are planning to add better settings and control.

Thanks for the response Martin – I look forward to seeing the plan in action! It’s only a minor issue for me really – I should get on with writing code rather than making my environment look nice :-)
